So, how's that Iraq Civil War coming?

Iraqi PM Maliki: Violence in Iraq Is Decreasing
WASHINGTON -- Iraq's prime minister said Sunday that his government is making progress in efforts to combat sectarian clashes between Shiites and Sunnis, and terrorism by Sunni Arab insurgents.
Nouri al-Maliki made the comments amid continuing reports of bloodshed in Iraq.
"The violence is not increasing. We're not in a civil war. Iraq will never be in a civil war," al-Maliki said through an interpreter on CNN's Late Edition. "The violence is in decrease and our security ability is increasing."
On Sunday, a series of bomb explosions left at least 15 people dead and dozens wounded. That followed 26 killings in dozens of attacks Saturday. Iraqi officials have said about 3,500 Iraqis died violently last month nationwide - the highest monthly tally of the war. U.S. officials, however, say they have seen improved security this month in Baghdad because of a joint American and Iraqi operation to deal with violence in the capital.
Al-Maliki refused to set a specific timeline for how much longer U.S. troops would be needed in Iraq.
Last week, Republican Rep. Chris Shays, a Connecticut lawmaker who previously opposed withdrawal timetables, said the United States should consider setting a timeline for troop withdrawals.
"I don't want to commit to a certain time or a certain period," al-Maliki said, but he hoped the government's efforts could "decrease this time to a year or less, or a few months."
The prime minister said "we are at a level of strength that we could, if the multinational forces want to lessen its presence, it could do that."
Democratic Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware said U.S. generals have told him that "things are really in difficult shape" in Iraq.
"They pointed out that since the unity government (was formed), the insurgency has not abated in any way," he told "Fox News Sunday.""There is no strategy to deal with getting the 60 percent unemployment rate among young people and young men who get paid to carry weapons and join the militia."

Using this "logic", we should have numerous countries on our "list" to battle with

Using the logic that oil is the reason for Operation Iraqi Freedom is just silly.
Iraq is far behind many other countries in oil producing. If the war were really about oil, as some stupidly insist upon, then I suppose that our target #1 is Saudi Arabia.
Next on our list?
Russia.
Third? We will have to attack ourselves - the U.S.
Don't forget that we will not only have to attack Iran, but strategically, we will have to battle Mexico, China, Norway, Canada, Venezuela, Kuwait, Nigeria, and the UK.
The only ones that are making oil a big deal about oil and oil prices are the whining libruls, who complain about $3 a gallon for gas, but are the same nimrods who will spend $10 a gallon on bottled water.
One word. Duh!

Gil Smart lies again, what a shocker
What Bush really said:
So, taken in context, Bush did not say merely Iraq had "nothing" to do with 9/11. He just said that the government of Iraq did not order the attacks. (Please note the italicized exception.)
But did Iraq aid terrorists? Certainly. Was the threat of WMD falling into the hands of terrorists a reality? Of course.
Bush has always called this "a war on terror". It remains a "war on terror". Anyone that can't seem to grasp that concept would do us a big favor by moving to Canada, like they suggested they would do (and, of course, failed at that too).
Q: What did Iraqi have to do with that?
Bush: What did Iraq have to do with what?
Q: The attacks upon the World Trade Center.
Bush: Nothing. Except for it's part of ---- and nobody's ever suggested in this administration that Saddam Hussein ordered the attack. Iraq was a ---- Iraq ---- the lesson of September the 11th is: Take threats before they fully materialize, Ken.
Nobody's ever suggested that the attacks of September the 11th were ordered by Iraq. I have suggested, however, that resentment and the lack of hope create the breeding grounds for terrorists who are willing to use suiciders to kill, to achieve an objective. I have made that case.
And one way to defeat that ---- you know, defeat resentment ---- is with hope. And the best way to do hope is through a form of government.
Now I said, going into Iraq, We've got to take these threats seriously before they full materialize. I saw a threat.
I fully believe it was the right decision to remove Saddam Hussein, and I fully believe the world is better off without him. Now the question is: How do we succeed in Iraq?
And you don't succeed by leaving before the mission is complete, like some in this political process are suggesting.

Between March and May, Swann has been closing "the funding gap"
Source
Swann raised $1.27 million between the end of March and May 1, according to reports filed with the Pennsylvania Department of State. About 20 percent of that money, $250,000, came from the Republican Governor's Association.
Swann also got a little help from his running mate, Jim Matthews, and from the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania. Each contributed $50,000.
The governor raised $1.36 million in the same period.

Sunshine Act - A Review of Stupidity in Manheim
Manheim meeting minutes
A member of the audience said he would like to make an objection at this point under the Sunshine Act. President Ritter asked him to announce himself. He said his name was Ron Harper, Jr. He said he was making an objection under the Sunshine Act, which allows anyone, anyone at any time to make an objection at a perceived violation of the Sunshine Act. He said number one. President Ritter asked him if he was a resident of Manheim Township. He said he was Ron Harper of downtown Stevens, East Cocalico. President Ritter asked him again if he was a resident of Manheim Township. Mr. Harper answered certainly not. President Ritter said then he is not allowed to speak at this meeting. Mr. Harper interrupted him and said to let him repeat, let him repeat for him ... President Ritter said he was asking him to ... Mr. Harper interrupted and said no, sir, he was making an objection under the Sunshine Act, which allows anyone at anytime ... President Ritter used the gavel and asked him to ... Mr. Harper said it does not specify that he needs to be a resident to make an objection of the Sunshine Act. President Ritter said Mr. Harper could either sit down, or he could leave, or they could escort him out. Mr. Harper said or they could let him speak. He said other Commissioners, they were violating the Sunshine Act, and asked them to allow him to speak. He said they were breaking the law, if he couldn’t allow ... President Ritter asked him if he were going to sit down. Mr. Harper said he would like to address. President Ritter again asked him if he were going to sit down. Mr. Harper said he would, yes, after he talks. President Ritter said no, he wasn’t allowing him to talk. He said he was not a resident. Mr. Harper said he didn’t need to be a resident to make, address the violation of the Sunshine Act. President Ritter asked Mr. Harper to please leave the meeting; he was disturbing the meeting. Mr. Harper said he’d like to make an objection, this was a civil matter. President Ritter said his objection has been heard, then asked him to please leave the meeting. Mr. Harper said but he was allowed to make an objection of the Sunshine Act. President Ritter said OK, he was going to have him removed from this premise. Mr. Harper sighed and said he was? Mr. Harper said well, this was a civil matter, this was the Sunshine Act, which was not a criminal matter. President Ritter addressed a member of the audience and asked him to please remove this gentleman.
The Sunshine Act
Five Manheim Township commissioners were found not guilty of violating the state's Sunshine Act.

Obama Warns of Gas Guzzling Cars in Town Hall Meeting
Tue Aug 15 2006 21:47:08 ET
Illinois Senator Barack Obama warns citizens at his 50th Town Hall meeting about gas guzzling, WPSD-TV reports.
It was among many points made to the standing room only audience at the Metropolis Community Center. Obama spoke on everything from DC politics to global warming.
He says part of the blame for the world's higher temperatures rests on gas guzzling vehicles. Obama says consumers can make the difference by switching to higher mileage hybrids.
Today the Senator said, "It would save more energy, do more for the environment and create better world security than all the drilling we could do in Alaska."
"After the meeting... Obama left in a GMC Envoy after admitting to favoring SUV's himself," claimed local News Channel 6.

Lancaster Independent Press goes offline
Darn, but only for one week while on vacation. Oh well, maybe LIP will work on that computing degree or just simply eat the Crackerjacks first. Who knows?
It was highly entertaining to watch LIP news get bent out of shape about a "trap" in some email. It ended up being nothing more than a service provided by the host server. And, I hate to say this, but any website you visit on the Internet has probably "tracked" your public IP address in its server log. Most likely, they also know what browser and operating system you used, too.
Gasp! They must be "hackers"!

Senator Harry Reid repays improper contribution
Story
A seven-year-old political donation has proven costly for the Senate's most senior Democrat.
Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., last year refunded a $3,000 check he got in 1999 from a Texas friend, Ben Barnes, after a public interest group revealed it was improper. Now he's paid Barnes more than $1,600 in interest, according to recent filings with the Secretary of the Senate.
The filings were disclosed Monday by PoliticalMoneyLine, which tracks campaign spending.
Barnes, a lobbyist and former Texas lieutenant governor, made the donation in question to a legal defense fund Reid had established to cover costs of his 1998 Senate race recount, which he won by 428 votes over Republican John Ensign.
Congressional ethics rules prohibit registered lobbyists from donating to lawmakers' legal defense funds, which members of Congress are allowed to set up to pay for legal fights. Barnes had only recently registered as a lobbyist and said at the time that it was an innocent mistake.
Reid's defense fund shut down in March 2001, and the donation went unnoticed until the Center for Public Integrity released a report in August 2005 about a handful of lawmakers, Reid among them, who'd accepted improper lobbyist donations into their legal defense funds.
Reid brought the matter to the Senate Ethics Committee, his spokesman said, and repaid the $3,000 to Barnes in October 2005. The Ethics Committee subsequently told him he should also pay interest for the time he had the donation. Reid had an accountant calculate the proper amount using the statutory rate under Nevada law - prime plus two percent adjusted annually - and cut Barnes a check for $1,611.47 on May 22 out of his campaign fund.
"As soon as this came to our attention we resolved this as quickly as possible," said Reid spokesman Jon Summers, attributing the delay to time needed to work through the process.
The Ethics Committee also noted that three quarterly reports for the defense fund had never been filed. The reports were for the end of 1999 and the first two quarters of 2000, when there was no activity in the account. Reid filed those reports July 31 with the Secretary of the Senate.

Sorry, "Christianism" is already defined
Christianism
This week, Gil asserts (incorrectly) that Andrew Sullivan recently coined (or invented) the term "Christianism". Quite clearly, "Christianism" was coined a long time ago.
This is not the first time Gil has had difficulties with common errors in English usage.

Redundancy
Once again, LIP has decided to run a story based on innuendo, rumors, and outright fibs.
I certainly do not know what is being spoken of in recent forums. Registering a new nickname to bypass a ban on a forum is not "hacking". Where did you get your computing degree, from a Crackerjack box?
Becky claims I harass women on LOL. Which women, Becky? Care to name some? I guess you'd rather stick with innuendo, rumors and outright fibs? I mean, are we really supposed to believe someone who posts Rick Gray's phone number and email? And Ed Rendell's?!! Plus the IP address of Lol Boss? Plus leaves wide open the visitor log of her entire website?
According to Becky, I am targetting a "very nice reporter" at LNP. Wrong. I am being harassed by a "very nice reporter" at LNP and I have notified LNP, leaving a nice solid, sound paper trail on someone who has abused the Internet before - on Wikipedia. I am sure that he is being effectively dealt with.
I have never even seen a suggestion from Becky that she does not want email and I certainly do not "harass" women on LOL. I would encourage Becky to receive the medical attention and mental help she so obviously needs.
Cease and desist is not only redundant, but cease and desist what?
Telling the truth?
Becky, as far as I am concerned, if you ever get a email from me - you will probably forward it to whoever you want to. I don't really give a hoot.

Reuters releases "source" photo
Here is my analysis of the photo released by Reuters "correcting" an earlier photo. The following photo Reuters says is the "original".

My opinion is that this "corrected" photo is also a fake. The horizon does not match on the so-called "original" with the doctored one. You can see that clearly here.

However, on my "possible original", the horizons do match when you line up the buildings. (Picture is likely part of a panoramic view that was cropped).

Reuters faked Downing Street Memo photograph - May 2005
Alright, not quite a faked Reuters photo, but I still like this one - Matthew Rycroft, author of the Downing Street Memo, describes why Saddam Hussein must be removed from Iraq - WMDs falling into the hands of terrorsts!

Pennachio left in the dust?, Santorum fixation continues, Gil openly admits he is stealing his idea from liberal blogs
Alright, I am confused now. We're going off onto some wild tangents with this Romanelli story. First of all, Gil is now openly admitting that he is using liberal blogs as a primary source for ideas for his columns. His latest is "Attytood", although the same story appeared in the Democratic Underground blog.
Once again, the sources seem very weak, citing a story from the Enquirer in Ohio and CBS news, where they reported "six people testified". It looks like they are going on a witchhunt for this company called "JSM Inc".
Democrats sue to keep Nader off state ballot
High court upholds Nader's placement on Nevada ballot
In this case, it looks as if the very same thing happened - Democrats tried to remove a legitimate candidate from the Presidential ballot in 2004 in Nevada.
The reason that Democrats consistently have their panties in a bunch about this is that they believe a Green candidate on the ballot will draw away votes from their own party.
It didn't work in 2004 and I am not sure what makes them think it's going to work in 2006.

My dedication to those still flapping their trap about hurricane season and FEMA
I would just like to point out that President Carter's 1979 executive order merged many of the separate disaster-related responsibilities into a new Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). (Source- http://www.fema.gov/about/history.shtm).
This was at a time when the 95th Congress was overwhelmingly Democrat. In fact, the majority party held 61 seats during that time period. The Republicans only held 38. Source - U.S. Senate website (Source)
So if FEMA is not living up to its expectations, we have President Jimmy Carter's excellent foresight to thank. Plus the eight years that Bill Clinton had to improve on his Democrat predecessor's plan.
It was Joseph Lieberman that chaired the committee that confirmed Brown's appointment. Source
Let's not forget Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin were also both Democratic officials in the state of Louisiana at the time.
So I don't want to hear about President Bush's failure's with FEMA. This was a Democrat disaster in the works for decades, as far as I'm concerned. Now they are trying to set up Bush to take the fall for their own failures?

So I don't want to hear about President Bush's failure's with FEMA. This was a Democrat disaster in the works for decades, as far as I'm concerned. Now they are trying to set up Bush to take the fall for their own failures?
Why are Ron Harper's panties in a bunch?
Although I have done nothing more than post public records available to just about anyone in the universe, it has been requested that I remove the details about a poster going by the username "RonHarper" because it gives a map of a town.
So of course, I have removed them. I am sorry if anyone was offended by this public information.

And so the investigation into the conduct of LNP begins...
Oh how the plot thickens. LIPNews reported recently on an individual named "LOL Boss" on Talkback. I believe LIPNews' exact words were "Superjerk". That site listed the IP address 72.25.5.126.
Further investigation has revealed this:

Not to have bad faith in your intentions or anything, but I reguarly WHOIS IP and potential spam links for info to link them together. I noticed that both your IP[1] and the domain name registration address of rambles.net are very close to eachother. Both are in Lancaster, PA and very close, physically, to eachother as show in the google map: [2]
Your IP is controlled by "Lancaster Newspapers, Inc.", which means its a newspaper buisness. The primary editor for rambles.net is a newpaper reporter named Tom Knapp[3], who's published in Lancaster Newspapers, Inc's newpaper. [4].
So I ask, are you Tom Knapp? Are you are friend of his? Are putting links to your own or your friend's reviews for movies/books into wikipedia? Things like these links just help to disrupt the encyclopediac content of wikipedia. Please consider just removing the links if this is true, as they are then links which you are biased for.
Notes: WHOIS on rambles.net must be entered manually: [5]

Floyd Landis had "external source" of testosterone, according to first test
Floyd Landis' claim that he had "naturally" high levels of testosterone in his body got shot to pieces today, according to LNP. The results of the second test are expected this weekend, when Floyd could potentially be stripped of his crown in the Tour de France.
No, they're all going to laugh at you!
Ahhh, such great wisdom from Adam Sandler.
Recently, Reportertalk.com has exploded into one of the biggest online battles I think I've ever been in. And things went better than expected. I discovered involvement with a person in Lititz, PA and several individuals unwisely using their Dejazzd Lancaster Newspaper accounts.
People have their panties in a bunch over their "public IP addresses" being posted. Um, there is a reason that they are called "PUBLIC" IP addresses, people. Because it's public information!? Then they got mad because I posted "maps". These were nothing more than maps created from Mapquest and another map creating site based on the city/town that the "public" IP address came from! Hahahaha!
Duped again, fools! And thanks for the details.
Looks like the "reporter" is coming up with some kook conspiracy theories on his site: www.reportertalk.com. Not even RonHarper is buying into it. Nor LIP news.
Need a scorecard?

Just in case you wanted to know which IP address I was referring to, it also turned up on Lipnews1.com in the recent past.
