Putin warns US about socialism
Full Story

Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence”.
“In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute,” Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.”
Will Gil ever remove his head from his ass?
This week, Gil came up with this gem:
Gil, may I please refer you to this article from February of 2009 titled "$3.9B in hurricane aid still unspent".
You're a fucking idiot!
Some Southern governors tried to pretend last week that even though their states were facing massive budget holes, they might reject federal stimulus money. Now, there might be a pragmatic case for doing so — if the money was to fund programs that states might have a hard time killing if or when federal dollars dry up.
But the posturing, by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and others, seemed to have as much to do with "principle" as practicality. It's dirty money! And indeed, Friday Jindal said he would turn down as much as $98 million in federal unemployment assistance. He'll be hailed as a hero on the right, I'm sure. I suspect the people of Louisiana will be slightly less enthused.

Gil,Gil, Gil...Bill "Ires"? Bill "Airs"!
Bill Ayers is not pronounced "Ires". It's pronounced "Airs". See here:
Watch Gil repeatedly pronounce it as "Ires". I don't mind if he wants to have an opinion on the guy, but can't he simply learn to pronounce the man's name?
Update: In Gil's colum, he actually spelled it "Ayres". He was not attempting to demonstrate the pronunciation of the word, it was actually misspelled.
Gil reasserts an incorrect statement by Larry Alexander - that Bill Ayers was invited to Millersville in February 2008 (which he may well have been) which was "before" he was "thrust into the public spotlight". That isn't true. Remember, the Presidential election of 2008 dragged on and on. I went back and found a few stories proving that the Obama-Ayers connection was being reported in February 2008. It was actually Hillary Clinton that stated Ayers was a liability for Obama.

Did Obama policies cause Buffalo plane crash?
A White House memo appears to be the reason why we haven't seen any new airworthiness directives issued by the FAA over the past several weeks.

Why are idiots thanking Obama for stem cell transplant?
Man appears free of HIV after stem cell transplant
This procedure was done in 2007, during Bush's term. It wasn't even done in this country, it was done in Germany. It was a stem cell transplant involving blood and bone marrow stem cells (not embryonic stem cells).
An important part of the story says: "While promising, the treatment is unlikely to help the vast majority of people infected with HIV, said Dr. Jay Levy, a professor at the University of California San Francisco, who wrote an editorial accompanying the study. A stem cell transplant is too extreme and too dangerous to be used as a routine treatment, he said.
"About a third of the people die [during such transplants], so it's just too much of a risk," Levy said. To perform a stem cell transplant, doctors intentionally destroy a patient's immune system, leaving the patient vulnerable to infection, and then reintroduce a donor's stem cells (which are from either bone marrow or blood) in an effort to establish a new, healthy immune system."
President Bush was the first President to federally fund stem cell research in August of 2001.

Full Story

Shepard Fairey, the controversial street artist riding a roller coaster of publicity with his red, white, and blue posters of President Barack Obama, was arrested last night on his way to DJ an event kicking off his exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art.
Fairey, a 38-year-old known for his countercultural style, was arrested on two outstanding warrants and was being held at a police station, according to a police official with knowledge of the arrest who requested anonymity.
Police could not describe the nature of the outstanding warrants last night, but said they were based in Massachusetts.
Fairey has been arrested at least 14 times, he has told the Globe.
