Usually, I fill up on over $40 at about this time, but I was under this time by 4-5 dollars.
What these numbers prove on "Take 2" is 285 miles divided by 9.251 gallons =
31 MPG.
Based on these first two tests, which did have a few minor glitches, I figure being somewhere between 31-35 MPG by the time I reach 1/4 of a tank of gas.
When I am over 3/4 of a tank, the MPG seems to be higher (in the 40-45 MPG range) - but the numbers average out by the time I get down to 1/4 of a tank. What I may do next is try to confirm the gas gauge readings by filling the gas tank with x number of gallons when the tank is over 3/4 full. I will see if the gallons I am figuring out from the gauge match up with the actual gallons I put in.
If I can confirm those numbers as accurate, I will probably keep my tank at least 3/4 full at all times to get the better mileage.
