Quote of the Century
I have an appreciation for those who post responsibly on this forum and add to the discussion; I have only disdain for those who, cloaked in anonymity, spew misinformation and hatred.
Marv Adams, LNP
I wonder if he holds disdain for those that spew misinformation and hatred with the name "Gil Smart" attached? LOL!
Berlin and Baghdad aren't the same? Well, you got one thing right
Iraq, unlike Germany, did not declare war on us; therefore a "pre-emptive" invasion, launched by the self-appointed moral arbiter of the world, was always going to require a greater degree of restraint than shown in World War II.
Iraq violated 14 UN resolutions, resulting in a "material breach" of resolution 1441.
The Avalon Project - Germany declares war on the U.S. a few days after Japan launches a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Government of the United States having violated in the most flagrant manner and in ever increasing measure all rules of neutrality in favor of the adversaries of Germany and having continually been guilty of the most severe provocations toward Germany ever since the outbreak of the European war, provoked by the British declaration of war against Germany on September 3, 1939, has finally resorted to open military acts of aggression.
On September 11, 1941, the President of the United States publicly declared that he had ordered the American Navy and Air Force to shoot on sight at any German war vessel. In his speech of October 27, 1941, he once more expressly affirmed that this order was in force. Acting under this order, vessels of the American Navy, since early September 1941, have systematically attacked German naval forces. Thus, American destroyers, as for instance the Greer, the Kearney and the Reuben James, have opened fire on German sub-marines according to plan. The Secretary of the American Navy, Mr. Knox, himself confirmed that-American destroyers attacked German submarines.
Furthermore, the naval forces of the United States, under order of their Government and contrary to international law have treated and seized German merchant vessels on the high seas as enemy ships.
The German Government therefore establishes the following facts:
Although Germany on her part has strictly adhered to the rules of international law in her relations with the United States during every period of the present war, the Government of the United States from initial violations of neutrality has finally proceeded to open acts of war against Germany. The Government of the United States has thereby virtually created a state of war.
The German Government, consequently, discontinues diplomatic relations with the United States of America and declares that under these circumstances brought about by President Roosevelt Germany too, as from today, considers herself as being in a state of war with the United States of America.
Accept, Mr. Charge d'Affaires, the expression of my high consideration.
December 11, 1941.
If you want to see the declaration of war on the United States by terrorism, which Iraq is part of the war on terror, then here is that declaration.
Saddam declares holy war on the U.S. on August 10, 1990.
Hussein calls for holy war, urging "Moslem masses" to rise up against US forces in Saudi Arabia and against pro-Western Arab leaders, whom he accuses of blaspheming Islam. At emergency summit in Cairo, Arab leaders vote 12 to 3 to send troops to Saudi Arabia to help defend against possible invasion by Iraqi forces. Libya, PLO join Iraq in opposing resolution; Yemen abstains. Jordan votes to approve resolution "with reservations." Canada, France, Australia send ships to Gulf area. The Biggest Tax Increase in US History
Full Story

“Yes, we’ll have to raise taxes,” Mr. Edwards declared in February in one of the first statements by a Democratic candidate on the issue.
Democratic strategists said the candidates were all keenly aware that Republicans are eager to attack them over tax increases. Vice President Dick Cheney accused Congressional Democrats last week of already planning “the biggest tax increase in American history.”
“The result would be a staggering tax increase on the middle class, on families and small businesses, and a return of the federal death tax from zero back up to a confiscatory 55 percent,” Mr. Cheney said.

FEMA, the ineffective government branch created by Democrats, still on delay
Full Story

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal government plan for responding to emergencies will not be ready in time for the approaching hurricane season, officials have told Congress.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, which bore the brunt of criticism following the 2005 season when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast, sent an advisory to Congress last week acknowledging it will not meet its June 1 deadline for issuing a new national response plan.
The advisory said development of the new plan had been delayed by unexpected issues, and more time is needed to resolve them. No new target date was set. In the meantime, a modified version of the plan in place during Katrina will be followed.
"Every post-Katrina report cited the enormous flaws with the current national response plan, yet here we are six weeks until hurricane season and FEMA has once again dropped the ball," said Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. "Failing to have a revised plan in place and relying solely on the previously failed one is irresponsible and unacceptable."
FEMA spokesman Aaron Walker said the advisory was intended to serve as a heads-up to Congress that the plan might be delayed, but said FEMA is "still shooting for a June deadline."
Congress Gone Wild...Spring Break Taxpayer Style
WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Congress is keeping Andrews Air Force base plenty busy this year ferrying lawmakers all over the globe at taxpayers’ expense. Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi took his wife, nine Democrats and two Republicans - Reps. Dan Lungren of California and Mike Rogers of Alabama - on a whirlwind tour of the Caribbean last week. After stops in Honduras and Mexico, they stopped in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where the delegation stayed at the five-star Caneel Bay resort.
In a separate trip to the Caribbean last week, Rep. Eliot Engel of New York squired his wife and four Democratic members to Grenada and Trinidad.
All told, the military flew at least 13 congressional delegations to various destinations during the Easter recess -- at an estimated rate of $10,000 or more per flying hour.
The congressional delegation trips, known as CODELs, are paid for by taxpayers. They are supposed to be directly related to members’ official duties, and House guidelines also stipulate that delegations include members of both parties to qualify for military planes -- a requirement that Speaker Nancy Pelosi waived for Engel’s group and two other delegations.
“There was a good faith effort made to include Republican members,” a Pelosi spokesman said. “For one reason or another, that did not work.”

Wrong!
"Marty McFly" (aka Michael J Fox) does not want expanded stem cell research. He wants expanded funding for it.
michaeljfox.org
Did MJF even read the legislation that he supported with Claire McCaskill that permitted human cloning? Nope.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation has raised and channelled $35 million toward Parkinson's research in the past four years, making it the second-largest funding source after the US government.
When the U.S. government has funded it more than you, it's hard to imagine how the gov't is "restricting" stem cell research.
The controversy surrounding stem cells has recently ended due to advances in science. However, some Democrats with out scientific backgrounds or knowledge appear to be stuck on stupid.

The controversy surrounding stem cells has recently ended due to advances in science. However, some Democrats with out scientific backgrounds or knowledge appear to be stuck on stupid.
Researchers at Advanced Cell Technology, led by Robert Lanza, reported the successful derivation of a stem cell line using a process similar to preimplantation genetic diagnosis, in which a single blastomere is extracted from a blastocyst.[20] It should be noted that this process has not yet demonstrated the ability of donor blastocysts to survive to term as well after blastomere harvesting. Nevertheless, this technique may in future allow for the creation of stem cells without embryonic destruction.
According to a January 9, 2007 Daily Telegraph (London) article reporting on a statement by Dr. Anthony Atala of Wake Forest University, there is another "ethical" source of stem cells. The fluid surrounding the fetus has been found to contain stem cells, that, when utilized correctly, "can be differentiated towards cell types such as fat, bone, muscle, blood vessel, nerve and liver cells", according to the article. The extraction of this fluid does not harm the fetus in any way as well. "Our hope is that these cells will provide a valuable resource for tissue repair and for engineered organs as well," said Dr Atala, head of Wake Forest's regenerative medicine institute and senior researcher on the project.

Is Gil really this dumb?
Gil makes the insinuation today that Republicans are basically hypocrites because Joe Pitts went to Damascus before Pelosi did.
=
????
You got to be shitting me!
While Gil is entitled to his opinion, he should not be entitled to mislead readers or misinform the general public. The article he was referring to can be found here.
First, Pitts was not there on behalf of the President.
We can let that slide, since the spokesman "misspoke" even though this article appeared three days ago. (The hypocrisy would be absent, since Bush did not send Republicans to Syria).
A key difference was here:
Well, we can see from previous articles referenced on this blog how that went without the Department of State present.
And finally, this tidbit:
What does this imply? I think that's clear.
And what did the President say about all this? According to the same article:
Another publication states:
I am finding it humorous and ironic that Gil would criticize Republican blogs for a misleading headline, which really wasn't even inaccurate! Bush did criticize the Pelosi trip to Syria, as well as everyone else. If Gil would have read the articles, he would have known that he criticized all the trips to Syria - making it a CONSISTENT STATEMENT (and not a hypocritical one).
It certainly would help if Gil Smart did some research before he jumped to the misinformed conclusions this stooge continues to make. Why would LNP keep a person like this on the payroll?
Update: To read the full transcript, click here.
Where is he getting this "Pitts visit is OK, but Pelosi isn't" crap? Neither visit was advised by the administration. But since they went, which one did better? The one's that asked to stop terror? Or the one that went just to spite "Our President" and handed out phony promises?

First, Pitts was not there on behalf of the President.
Pitts said the White House was not involved in his visit to Syria, contradicting his chief of staff, Gabe Neville, who said Monday the Bush administration "cooperated" in the visit.
"He probably misspoke," Pitts said.
We can let that slide, since the spokesman "misspoke" even though this article appeared three days ago. (The hypocrisy would be absent, since Bush did not send Republicans to Syria).

He also said the GOP congressmen received a debriefing by the U.S. Department of State, and members of the State Department were present during all their meetings in Syria.
Well, we can see from previous articles referenced on this blog how that went without the Department of State present.
And finally, this tidbit:
Pitts said the Republicans' conference with Assad was not an attempt to undermine Pelosi and was arranged before he was aware of Pelosi's visit.
What does this imply? I think that's clear.
And what did the President say about all this? According to the same article:
"The White House discourages all U.S. officials from visiting Syria," Bush spokesman Alex Conant said Wednesday, adding that doing so undermines Bush's policy of isolating Syria, which the White House considers a state sponsor of terrorism.
Another publication states:
"We have made it clear to high-ranking officials, whether they be Republicans or Democrats, that going to Syria sends mixed signals," Bush said.

Freakin' nutcase idiots elected tells fibs to terror state
HOUSE SPEAKER Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered an excellent demonstration yesterday of why members of Congress should not attempt to supplant the secretary of state when traveling abroad. After a meeting with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, Ms. Pelosi announced that she had delivered a message from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that "Israel was ready to engage in peace talks" with Syria. What's more, she added, Mr. Assad was ready to "resume the peace process" as well. Having announced this seeming diplomatic breakthrough, Ms. Pelosi suggested that her Kissingerian shuttle diplomacy was just getting started. "We expressed our interest in using our good offices in promoting peace between Israel and Syria," she said.
Only one problem: The Israeli prime minister entrusted Ms. Pelosi with no such message.
