Why Iraq is not in a Civil War

Kurds are an ethnic group.

Sunni and Shia are denominations of the Islamic faith.

According to the Political Dictionary, a "civil war" is a war between different factions, whether geographcal or political, within one state or nation.

Since none of the groups are "political" or in a geographical location unique to one nation, Iraq, this is not a civil war.

A more appropriate term is insurgency or even insurrection.

La-la-la-LOSER!

Don't worry. Gil is used to such crushing defeat and he will be available to console you in your Terrible Grief.

Got it wrong again, but who wouldn't be surprised?

I’ve always thought it funny that this feature, so diametrically opposed to what a supposed majority of Lancaster Countians think, should be so honored.

Actually, that isn't what the Lancaster County Magazine said. If you want to visit a really bush-league website that was developed by a company that resorted to Sharp Innovations (total rip off) to make its website, do yourself proud.

Gil was voted "best local newspaper columnist" in a periodical primarily about dining and interior decorating. (Who was he up against? Martha Stewart?) Does that mean that his "feature" was honored? No. Besides, he has written numerous other columns in the Lancaster Newspaper, too. But that doesn't stop him from spinning it anyway he wants.

Gil insists his "feature" is about "thinking". What a joke. The column is hardly ever researched and contains numerous factual errors. That's why it got bumped off the Lancaster page.

Gil believes he smacks people "rhetorically" in the mouth. That is laughable. He does nothing of the sort. He twists the truth, manipulates, and yes, whines like a little baby about the Iraq War that John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards and others of the sort voted in favor of at the start.

The truth is, Gil got smacked - hard. He lost his treasured spot on the Lancaster page and got moved "down" the alphabet of sections. And when he gets smacked down hard, like the liberals did in Election 2006 - he wants to manipulate it into a win for liberals instead of what it really was - a win for moderate-conservative Democrats.

Just like those that can't stand up and fight a fair game, Gil's column matches the cowardess of his compadres.

It isn't a win, no matter how hard Gil tries. And I think that every day, it becomes glaringly more obvious. Watch the spin begin.

By the way, talk about something that does not compute? Why is Gil a Pittsburgh Steelers fan? Pittsburgh is a 4 hour drive from Lancaster. Philly is so much closer. Heck, it would make more sense to be a Ravens, Giants or Jets fan. It's even closer than Pittsburgh. Now here is a real team.

Gil Smart: Conservatism is Dead (in for a rude awakening)

So moderate, conservative and populist Democrats won 6% of the Senate and 7% of the House and now they have delivered a "death blow" to Conservatives, according to idiot columnist Gil "not-so" Smart.

How laughable.

If Conservatism died on Nov. 7th, so did liberalism, because as I remember it - anti-war liberal Democrat Ned Lamont sunk like a stone against Joe Lieberman, a pro-war Independent. He lost just as much as Santorum did.

Even here in PA, populist Bob Casey Jr., who is against same-sex marriage and is prolife, is hardly a shrill left wing liberal. He is quoted last year stating that we "should finish the job" in Iraq. In other words, Santorum did not lose to liberalism. He lost to propaganda and name recognition of Bob Casey Jr., who most people didn't realize is still involved in the illegal payraise scandal.

As a right-leaning populist myself, I am not disappointed at Santorum's replacement, although I would have liked to have seen him win. But I don't consider it a defeat of conservatism, just another prime example of the left reducing its argument to making it personal rather than actually debating any issues - pushing me farther from my position as right-leaning populist toward conservatism.

I can only imagine that others in my position are being pushed that way, too thanks to Election 2006. So I am thinking that Gil and other libs who misguidedly think "they won" just might get their wish - an angry wave of Red come November 2008. I know of at least one Democrat seat that will probably go - Troopbasher Kerry.

Have you noticed something?

I go on messageboards alot. They are fun. They help you discuss and think things through with others.

Since November 7th, I've noticed a significant change. It used to be that you would get these posters on the sites listing the Iraq casualties. This month is 2,230 or whatever. They would do it daily. Hourly even.

But ever since November 7, 2006, I've noticed that it has basically stopped. The tallies of Iraq casualties aren't being posted anymore.

Did the war stop? How strange.

The Architect Speaks

The Architect Speaks

Rove is famous for his political statistics, and his team has come up with an array of figures to contend that the Republicans' loss of 29 seats in the House and six in the Senate is not so out of whack with the historic norms. In all sixth year midterms, the President's party has lost an average of 29 House seats and 3 Senate seats, according to these figures. In all sixth-year midterms since World War II, the loss was an average of 31 House and 6 Senate seats. And in all wartime midterms since 1860, the average loss was 32 House and 5 Senate seat.

Howard Dean's promises

If the Democrats are restored to power, [Dean] said, "we will not permit Iran to be a nuclear power, we will make the deal with the Chinese to get nuclear weapons out of North Korea, and we will catch Osama bin Laden or kill him, one or the other."

SEVERAL MEDIA OUTLETS ARE EITHER LYING OR DON'T UNDERSTAND U.S ELECTION HISTORY

ELECTION 2006 RESULTS:

49 Rep
49 Dem
2 Independent

Historically, when this happens, the VP makes the decision on the majority party because he holds the tie-breaking vote in the Senate.

Example:

47th Congress (1881-1883)

Majority Party: Republican (37 seats)
Minority Party: Democrat (37 seats)
Other Parties: 1 Independent; 1 Readjuster
Total Seats: 76

Source: U.S. Senate website

The Senate Republican and Democratic floor leaders are elected by the members of their party in the Senate at the beginning of each Congress.

SOURCE : U.S. Senate website

LAME DUCK DEMOCRAT HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, ALL DRESSED UP AND NOWHERE TO GO

There are 49 Republicans Senators in the House. Plus two pro-war Independents, Joe Lieberman(CT) and Bernie Sanders(VT).

That leaves 49 Democrat Senators (assuming a best case scenario for Dems in close races in Montana and Virginia).

That means anything the House legislates in regards to Iraq has to get through the Senate and the deciding vote in the case of a tie is Dick Cheney.

Looks like Dems "victory" is kind of lame, especially if you are an anti-war Democrat.

Here is a nice children's show from Lebanon and Palestine

Visit the Palestinian Media Watch website.

That crazy Denmark - what a bunch of jokers!

What is Gil's obsessive fixation on the so-called "Man-on-dog" Senator?

Perhaps he just finds it all too fascinating an idea.

Well, so much for respectful debate, I suppose. Last week, Gil started off by referring to people as "idiots". In response, I called him a fucking moron.

Why is it that Democrats repeatedly tell us they want to debate issues - but all they do it pull out meaningless poll numbers and resort to namecalling?

Doesn't Gil realize at this point that the only people that take the telephone polls are Democrats? They are the ones that need a friend - so when someone calls them, they stay on the line. On the other hand, Republicans usually have better things to do - like work - than take some meaningless poll, so they hang up.

Earth to Democrats: The only poll that counts is on Nov. 7th.

Gil is entitled to his opinion, but he is not entitled to manipulate facts and outright lie.

He can hate Santorum all he likes, for all I care. Personally, I think he's the best Senator we've ever had.

If "Illegal-Payraise Boy" Casey Jr. does get elected over Santorum, it's no big deal to me. It will give me something to add into this blog week after week after week.

Let the games begin!
